Balancing Work and Family...Part II

I previously wrote an article about managing your time while working at home. This seems to be difficult for many people when trying to work at home with family responsibilities as well.

So this here is part two to that article...
I have been working at home for about three years now ever since my son was born. In my opinion, it is the best thing that anyone could imagine! Why would you want to go out to work in that daily commute when you could be home with your family, while bringing in an extra income?

It may sound easy to be home, but it can become very challenging. How can you manage to build your business, while still being able to focus on the children?

I have found that you have to plan ahead. You must have things available for your child to do so that you can focus on your work.

But you also need to separate work from family so that you spend quality time with them.

Decide what your priority is for the day. How much work needs to be done? Plan the number emails you will send out or the number of ads you need to post or the number of people you need to talk to per day. Once this is accomplished you can relax and spend quality time with your family.

But how do you know the amount of work to be done in order to have a successful home business? It is recommended to do a minimum of five hours per week. To me this is not enough to be successful, however.

I would suggest a minimum of ten to fifteen hours.

Think about it though, fifteen hours a week compared to forty hours at a regular job outside of the home...and you are with your family!

Working online especially can be very time consuming. So be careful!

You might focus on work for two hours at a time or even one hour at a time. Then spend an hour with your child. When you are making meals or doing the laundry be sure to include your child in these tasks, as they will feel proud to help, if they are younger that is...lol.

That way you are spending quality time, while getting chores done as well. Multitasking...as we like to say!

However, when your child is sleeping or at school is the most opportune time to get work done of course.

Play a game; colour; read lots of books; go to the library...

Remember, just because you have the opportunity to work at home, you are doing this for your family, so don't take the time away from them that they deserve!

Are you looking to work at home and be with your family? Do you miss those precious hours at home with your loved ones? Feel free to ask for advice...

Are you currently working at home, but need help or support? Please ask me for help as well!

Balancing Work and Family...Part I

Balancing work and family life is important, however, it may not be as easy as it sounds. You have the benefits of being at home with your children, but how do you balance this with work and stay focused on what you are doing? Not only are you thinking of what you have to do next, but there is the dreaded chore of housework and meals to make. It takes a lot of self-discipline! You can manage your time in order to handle what distractions might come your way and have the best of both worlds, that of working at home without having a stressful commute. It sounds like the perfect solution.

Here are some tips for managing your time working at home and some ideas of how to do this. It is imperative that you plan ahead and write down your goals. Decide the best times of the day to work and balance these times with your family's schedule. Your schedule may be different depending on whether you are an early bird or prefer to work at night when the children are in bed. You should have a designated work area and importantly, remember to take breaks so you will work more efficiently.

Be sure to make a plan including daily and weekly goals that you have set for yourself. As I was growing up, one of my father’s sayings was, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail”. I put that phrase to good use during my high school, university and career years spent out of the home before I had a child. It still rings true to this day! It is imperative that you plan ahead in order to work efficiently. Your plan should be specific like, planning to spend five hours per day on the computer; planning to call clients; and planning the hours during which you will spend quality time with the children. Once each goal in your plan is accomplished, check it off so that you know it is completed and you can then focus on the next task at hand.

Another tip is to write down your goals, so they are easier to remember. Use a journal or calendar, whatever you choose. A calendar might be good for writing your day-to-day goals and a journal for writing extra notes to yourself. Keep your journal nearby and refer to it often. If you have a long list of things to do in one day, you should decide which is most important, do it first and focus on it entirely. Put the other tasks away until each one is completed so you don’t get overwhelmed thinking of all you have to do. Make sure your plan for the day isn’t so full that you don’t have time to complete it and spend time with your children without your mind wandering back to your work.

Develop a daily schedule. You might choose to work from nine to twelve-noon, break for lunch and begin again in the afternoon, keeping the rest of the day for your children and husband! If you keep the same time-frame, you will get more work done and be more organized. Make sure that your child has a healthy breakfast including protein such as eggs or oatmeal with fruit, so that he or she will be content to play independently while you work. During an afternoon nap, perhaps you can fit calls in or work on the computer. Do your most difficult tasks during the part of the day that you are at your best, when you first get up in the morning if that’s best for you.

Make sure you have a room that is designated as your office and your children understand that when you are in there it is important that you work. If you have a child in daycare take full advantage of this time completing as much work as possible.

Last, but not least be sure to take breaks, if even five minutes at a time; stretch, have a cup of tea, green or black, which has anti-oxidants, anything that will just give you a lift. I like to drink 'Gochi' too, which is very healthy. Of course you will have a longer break at lunch. Your mind will be refreshed and you will be ready to get back to work. If you have a little extra time, you can go for a short walk. Try to take care of yourself so you don’t get run down. You might even fit in a fifteen-minute catnap while your child is napping. When there is a designated playtime for your child, this may be something you want to take part in especially if you have young children, such as reading or colouring in order to give them some of your undivided attention. You can have them help prepare dinner; they like to do this and it makes them feel helpful.

An important piece of advice for a successful home-based business, is to work diligently and have a lot of self-discipline, which may be obvious. To make life easier to manage, be sure to write down your goals and focus on one-at-a-time! Second, take breaks so as not to become overwhelmed with the task at hand and your work at home can be very rewarding. You can have both an amazing career and quality time with your family, the best of both worlds!

Colours and Your Personality

Previously, I studied the colours of personalities.
Did you know that our personalities are represented by colours and more specifically the primary colours?

RED, YELLOW, BLUE and GREEN...

There are many shades of colours that are beautiful for decorating a room or adding pizzazz to a painting, but now we know that colours even describe our personalities.

If you are into colours like I am, you will find this very interesting...

Recently, I attended a seminar with Tom Schreiter in the big city of Toronto, Ontario.
It was terrific! He likes to explain the colours in relation to personalities, which is what I am basing this on.

I will explain it here briefly and how each colour can be helpful for a team.

YELLOW: The YELLOW personality type is the helper. They love helping others and are concerned about others. They are kind, nice and caring. The people who are generally a YELLOW personality are moms, teachers and nurses, for example. The YELLOW's are important for the team, because they will do the work and followup with any of the necessary business.

BLUE: The BLUE personality likes to have fun. They want to party, love to talk and like adventure. They talk, talk, talk, but don't generally listen. The BLUE's are important for your team, because they like meeting people and aren't worried about talking to anyone.

GREEN: The GREEN personality is more reserved and likes to focus on the facts. They want to know the details and are often numbers oriented. You could consider accountants, engineers, editors and lawyers to have a GREEN personality. They are great to have on your team, because they know the important details that others might leave out.

Last, but not least, is the colour RED!

RED: The RED personality likes the money. They want to know everything about the money. They are often a 'Type A' personality and might be considered bossy. They can be CEO's or business owners for example. The RED's are important on a team, because they can run the organization.

Although I love the colour BLUE, I would not consider myself a BLUE personality, because I am not a talker. I would be primarily a YELLOW, because I want to help others and used to be a teacher. I am also a touch GREEN, because I love details, like when editing.

What colour is your personality?

Feel free to share it! If you are not sure then base it on your TRUE personality at rest, not on a work basis.

If have any questions about how this can help your business, please contact me.

Sincerely,

Jill Ann Bromwich

Marketing Tools - All You Need!

Is GVO The Ultimate Toolbox for Marketing?

When marketing on the Internet, sometimes you feel like your head is going to explode! There are so many systems, tools and services out there, it will make your head spin...

There seems to be another "magic tool" that pops up every day, promising millions of visitors to your site and large sums of money in your account....effortlessly.

It can get overwhelming and take focus away from what you should be doing to build your business.

As I am sure you know, there are tools out there that not only make your life easier, but keep your business running on auto-pilot for you.

The trick is to know which ones to focus on and which ones to stay away from!

Let's go through the essentials which every top Internet marketer depends on to run their million dollar businesses...

1) Web Hosting
Obviously, without hosting, the Internet would be a pretty boring place to hang out. If you have a domain name, you need a place to host it so others can find you.

Hosting companies out there range from free all the way to over $500 a month for dedicated hosting.

The key is to find a company that provides 99% uptime and also provides 24/7 support in case you ever have a problem.

*Of course, just like anything, you get what you pay for.

2) Auto-Responders

Have you heard the phrase, "The Money Is In The List?"

Well, having an auto-responder and building a list that knows, likes and trusts you, is the fastest way to literally pushing a button and have money coming in your bank account...

The formula is simple!

Create a page that gives something of huge value totally away for free. This could be a free report, a video lesson, an audio interview, or a live webinar.

Then, in exchange for your free information, the visitor will give you their name and e-mail address.

Then the magic happens!

You can follow up with them automatically, offer more value and even get them to buy something!

This is done using an auto-responder, all automatically and efficiently for you.

Again, companies providing auto-responders range from $20 a month up to $99 a month.

3) Video Hosting

The Internet is all about video, without some type of video on your website, most people may not choose to hang around.

Video allows you to bond with your visitor and create more trust than with just words on your site.

We've all heard of YouTube for sure, however it is a free service that is known for pranks, jokes, and music videos...

Is this the right image for your business?

There's a reason the top marketers host their videos through paid services and you should too.

4) Website Builder and Prospecting System

99% of Internet marketers don't have the time and/or the skills to create their own websites or prospecting pages. Trying to learn website design and html code is not the best way to spend your time.

That's where website builders come in. You simply customize your pages with your own video, product info, auto-responder, etc and you're done!

5) Live Webcasts

The most powerful way to sell is face to face. You get instant feedback, customers can ask questions and get their answers immediately.

Since we don't want to meet all our visitors in person...Webcasts are the next best thing.

We can sit in the comfort of our own homes and present to people all over the world. Product demonstrations, video overviews, live questions and answers, it's all possible with Webcasts!

If you're not using Webcasts in your business, you are missing out on thousands of dollars of sales.

Typical companies charge between $49 to $99 a month and more.

The Top 5 Essential Tools

These are the top five tools that every top marketer uses and depends on daily, to make sales on auto-pilot.

You can get all these great tools from different companies and pay anywhere from $150to well over $350 each and every month.

OR...you can make the smart decision and get them all from one company, while saving a huge amount of money.

GVO offers all these tools under one roof for ONLY $1.45 a day.
That's less than a Starbucks coffee! :-)

*The best part is, for a limited time, you can take advantage of all these amazing tools and profit with them for a full 14 days for only a $1.00!

You don't have to decide now, just try it out for $1.00 for 14 days and take your time...
